Group Shared Projects

does anyone still do shared projects?

It seems to me that there are a lot of good movies that would fit this type of effort. What ever happened to Shared fantasia 2000? How about the Animatrix? There used to be a bunch of animatrix synchs in the old site.

Or 'eavy metal? That one is done as segments and has some trippy visuals...

any others?

Heres a synch for each animation episode.

I got bored so I synched

I got bored so I synched another Animatrix segment.

It looks like there are 4 of us doing this shared project. So maybe we can all do 2 and then there is 1 left for someone else. Unless some others decide to join.

But because I was bored decided to try and sych another one so just for the heck of it I put Panteras Cemetarygates to Program. I started it just after the title faded to black.

I don't know if anyone likes Pantera I don't see much metal here.

KID'S STORY 2 FROM HELP & 2 FROM THE WALL

I started this one right after the title for Kid's Story faded to black. The first song I used was Help! by the Beatles and after Help! is over I started Yesterday (both of these songs are on Help).
Then there are 2 songs from Pink Floyds the Wall. The first song to be played right after Yesterday is Run Like Hell and directly following that is Stop. It stops a little before the credits roll.

KID'S STORY

I think I'll try Kid's Story.

"Animatrix"

"Animatrix" is Matrix side stories in Anime (animation). Different Anime artists took various stories and created this 9 section compilation which was released in 2003. The result is visually fantastic and full of surprises. The sections are as follows:

Final Flight of the Osiris
The Second Renaissance, Part 1
The Second Renaissance, Part 2
Kid's Story
Program
World Record
Beyond
A Detective Story
Matriculated

whats left

so which ones arent assinged yte?

I don't have the animatrix but i can probably get it easy enough. Does anyone care which one I do.

let me know

you can join

You can join and you can pick any section except "matriculated", which I covered.

Leighton, you may want to chime in for the section you liked the best.

There are 9 sections, if I remember correctly. All were visually great.

???????????

what is a shared project and how do you do it?

How to do it

Arkiver describes "shared" in the post below.

How to do it. Not necessarily in thses orders.

First, you need somebody with wizard powers to voluteer to put it together.

Second, you announce the shared project where participants carve up an ultra cool movie and each person covers their section of movie with music. hopefully enough people will volunteer.

Third, you need to have rules of participation.

Fourth, set a time limit.

arkiver's picture

Shared Projects...

A Shared Project is usually an anthology type movie that gets carved up and different people take different segments. Good movies for that, as examples, Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, the Animatrix... Heavy Metal might also be a good one. Shared Fantasia was the 1st, and still the greatest, such project that the synching community took on.

There's a link to SF somewhere around here... but I forget where exactly (check the synchronicity sites section on the front page).

shared synchs

Nevermind, I see Karl has provided a link to the Shared Fantasia site. The digital files are no longer available, though. Perhaps you can get a copy of the synch from someone still. Dunno if anyone wants to commit to being responcible for that now, which I certainly understand.

I only remember two shared projects that were actually pulled off, Shared Fantasia, and Shared Fantasia II. There was talk of using Heavy Metal (the original), and other movies, but nothing ever came of 'em, as far as I know. My memory may be faulty, or I may have overlooked something more recent. Took long enough to create Shared Fantasia II.Smiling In contrast, Shared Fantasia, the original, was cobbled together quite rapidly.

IMHO, Shared Fantasia was/is more valuable as a symbol of the way various synchers of the day could collaborate and work together, rather than as a final product, although that was certainly good as well, at least in large areas. So it doesn't disturb me greatly that the digital files have disappeared for now. There was a lot of divergent opinions as to what the better parts of the synch were. I've seen this variation of opinion in my own work as well, within the same synch I mean. A lot of it has to do with what movies you like, or what musicians, or what style of animation, and so on. Some of it has to do with the difference in the way people create synchs; some matches emphasize the lyrics and some the music. Dark Side of the Rainbow is more interesting to many, perhaps, because there's a nice blend of musical and lyrical matches. I still think another big attraction, and why other synchs have not matched its popularity by any stretch of the imagination, is that the two components are both uber-popular in their genres, or contain such a powerful mystique between them. Disney's Alice in Wonderland of the Alice-Wall combo, perhasp 2nd or 3rd down the rung of synch well-knownness, is a fine movie, for example, but doesn't contain the cultural weight of MGM's Wizard of Oz movie. That's my opinion. It's a shame, in a way, but, again, understandable.

Okay, thanks,
baker.

Nice that there's still talk of Shared Fantasia here.

Peace & art,
baker.

Shared Fantasia 2000

It took about 3 years from start of the idea to completion. Key got the idea and Carlo wanted to join. Key forgot it was Carlo and thought I wanted to do it. So I eagerly jumped in. Galactic Hombre was never part of this community. He was a independent entity brought in by me.  Dave Bytor and Whytless Physh also joined.  sirPineal, Arkiver, and Baker B flirted with the idea but ultimately let others do it.  Galactic Hombre replaced Baker B. Key covered the remaining unclaimed sections.

The rules were that we could manipulate the audio but not the visual.  The synchs could be pre-existing.

 Participants were:
Key (3 sections), Butterfly Fractal, Flamingo Yo-Yo, Nature Nymph

Karl Tune, Flying Whales

Whytless Physh, Depresion Era

Galactic Hombre, Sorcerer's Apprentice

Dave Bytor, Noah's Ark

Carlo, Steadfast Toy Soldier

Shared Fantasia 2000 was completed and the result was fantastic!

I think Eclpsed Moon and Micheal Allen also tried to start other shared projects with but there did not seem to be many responses. Their ideas were Creepshow and a movie of Monty Python Shorts (the name escapes me).

other shared

Is ne1 still interesting in doing shared projects?

animatrix seems like a good one. didn't there used to be a bunch of animatrix synchs?

scf

animatrix is my favourite thing to sync with

ive got loads of animatrix syncs - some for the individual episodes and others album play throughs, and others just for a couple of episodes etc

if you have any of these albums i can put up the relevant syncs for you to try;

'Bodysong' - Jonny Grenwood
'Forever Delayed' - Manic Street Preachers greatest hits
'Hail to the Thief'- Radiohead
'Kid A' - Radiohead
'Ok Computer' - Radiohead
'Deserter's Songs' - Mercury Rev
'The Bends' - Radiohead
'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots' - The Flaming Lips
'I might be Wrong' - Radiohead
'Mwng' - Super Furry Animals
'Blade Runner' - Vangelis
'( )' - Sigur Ros
'These were the Earlies' - The Earlies
'De-loused in the Comatotorium' - The Mars Volta
'The Wall' - Pink Floyd
'Discovery' - Daft Punk
'Piper at the Gates of Dawn' - Pink Floyd
'Guerrilla' - Super Furry Animals
'The White Album' - The Beatles
'Amnesiac' - Radiohead
'Agaetis Byrjun' - Sigur Ros

You have it covered!

Leighton, we could use your best one. Any section that is not covered by another syncher, by the unknown deadline, can be covered by one of Leighton's synchs by default. I prefer one section per person.

Stone Cold Floyd, pick a section of Animatrix to synch since you brought up this nice idea.

Squever, you are welcome to try a section.

Anybody else is invited to try too.

At this point, we have no deadline.

Right now I am open to all rules to synch. You can manipulate video and audio, though I prefer a natural match. It can be a pre-existing synch.

I reserve the right to reject an entry if it does not seem to make sense to me (and probably a few other people too).

This is all an idea on print because I have no idea how to bring this idea to reality for other's pleasure.

"Leighton, we could use your

"Leighton, we could use your best one. Any section that is not covered by another syncher, by the unknown deadline, can be covered by one of Leighton's synchs by default. I prefer one section per person."

yeah thats cool, let me know which animation isnt covered and then ill re-try any syncs i have for that and suggest my favourite.

Good

Leighton, Thanks for helping us out.

I have claimed and tried to cover the "matriculated" section. Once the synch music (Linkin Park) is over, I would like the video to finish with just silence. I think it adds to the point of the video and real life does not have sound effects.

I am also willing to entertain the idea of having even multiples of each section. But that would have to be up to the patience of the person putting it together.

"Matriculated"

I chose "Matriculated" from "The Animatrix" to synch to.

As soon as you see coulds at the very beginning, unpause "Sploosh!" from Ozric Tentacles' "Strangeitude" from time zero. Pause the movie as soon as the music is over.

Unpause "Aramanu" from Ozric Tentacles' "The Hidden Step" from time zero as you unpause the video. Pause the movie as soon as the music is over.

After "Aramanu" ends you see yellow being, then the pink hair woman. Then the pink hair woman nods up, then down. As soon as she finishes the nod down, unpause "Points of Authority" from Linkin Park's "Hybrid Theory" from time zero. The next thing you should see is the pink hair woman look to your left.

Then let the movie play to completion.

I will have to check for the cue points, as not all players play at the same speed.

matri

matriculated is a goo done. i'll have to check this out.

ne1 else interested?

i thought about doing one with detective story but not sure what audio yet.

That's a fantastic album, isn't it?
baker.

yeah its very interesting,

yeah its very interesting, havent heard it in a while.

have you seen the Bodysong film?

baker b.'s picture

Been a while, but I remember

Been a while, but I remember being not very impressed. The music is better. In ways, it's more interesting that Radiohead (blasphemy!)
baker.

I am

I'd like to try. I am limited only to posting directions on how to do it. multi-media data management is beyond me. Somebody else would have to put it together using my instructions to witness it. And I have never seen "Animatrix".

Are there any rules?
What are the divisions of the movie?
Do I get to pick a section or are they assigned?
Is there a time limit to how long we have to finish it?
