Synchronicity Arkive

Got Synch? 1st Arkive Contest!! (with Prize)

Contest is now closed (as of June 1st, 2006)!!

So, here's a challenge to the synching community and also kind of a contest. I'd like to see a real, hands-down, original non-intentional synch. From public domain sources, both audio and video. In the 5-10 minute timeframe range, which should be fairly easy. To be hosted on the Arkive as an example of what a copyright-free version of this art might look like.

That's the challenge. Are you up to taking it? Think you can synch it up? Read on for more info...

To find audio with potential, check out:

To find video sources, check out:

Submissions can be in the following video formats: Windows media, avi, Quicktime movie, or mpeg. If you have a submission, please send me a private message through the site and I will arrange a spot for the file to be dropped.

And the prize? A $50 gift card to Amazon.com. Plus the file will be hosted on the Arkive for at least 1 year.

So synch away. Let's see what you've got. Time to put our money where our mouths are, and actually create something.

peace,

See my note in response... let me know if you have any questions.

For everyone's benefit, just a reminder, I can't accept any submissions that are not clearly copyright-free (unless you actually have licensed the material, and I think that's fairly costly... not something one would do for a $50 gift certificate anyway). If in doubt, keep looking for other sources. It's not that I don't want to accept what you come up with, it's that I can't. The links in this thread have some good, easy to document sources... although the majority of material you're likely to be familiar with are copyrighted (almost all films that were theatrically released, plus most modern music, ie. all rock, rap, etc.), these links should help find stuff that definitively isn't.

The main goal for me in running this contest is to get a look at what can be done with more public domain materials for this art form.

more audio sources... and some video....

iPac is a Political Action Committee devoted to copyright issues. They've been loading up iPods and sending them to Congress, to let them know about the issues surrounding copyright, paid for by donations. The page about the iPod campaign has some great links to Creative Commons' licensed content... both audio (lots) and video (not quite as much)...

enjoy!!

Way to go el Giron!

I tried the link and all I see are strange symbols, page after page.

Could anybody please describe the 1st submission from el Giron?

also...

Also, this is a Windows Media file, so you need to have Windows Media Player (not sure what version, but it works just fine in the latest).

download...

Karl,
I think the easiest thing to do is right click on the link and then save link as. Or something like that. That will download a local copy of the file to your PC.

I did watch Giron's... I liked it. The video is a Betty Boop cartoon, and the music fits very well.

Yes!

Good for you for giving the community an incentive to create! I don't have access to any video-editing technology, but my mind has been pretty well trained over the last six years to recognize a good synch when I see one. I'll sort through the archives and see if anything jumps out.

pass the mic.

Deadline

I forgot to mention, deadline for submissions is June 1st. That should give everyone plenty of time. And yes, there is a spiffy prize... read the story for details. Eye-wink

of interest to synchers... i've been immersed in the videoblogging culture. i launched vlogdir.com last year and am now starting a new project at SpreadTheMedia.org.
If you would like, I could pass this contest info along to the vlog community where it may garner some interest.

Sad i see my Black Emperor's Dark City synch got a bad review. heheh.

cheers, arkiver. i'll be back. email me to Eye-wink

spread the word...

sull, I certainly would mind if you spread the word on the Arkive's contest. actually, that goes for anyone who has a site. By all means. The more it gets spread around, hopefully that means more people will actually participate and generate some good stuff. Eye-wink
