The Last Man On EA#rth (Slow InF#inity)

| Featured Synchs
Mood:
multi-dimensional
Approx. Running Time:
2 hours

Ingredients

  • The Last Man On Earth (1964)
  • Godspeed You!Black Emperor, F#A# (Infinity) (1998)
  • Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada (1999)
Setup Instructions
Start "F#A#" after "American International Television" fades to black (I believe it's at 0:00:13). Turn the film's volume up at 0:55:46 or so (when the silence on track 3 begins). When you hear the music coming back in, mute the film again. When the album ends, pause the movie and start "Slow Riot For New Zero Kanada". There's a lot of music left, I usually fade it out. Enjoy.

Additional Notes
More Source: One of my favorite synchs is the "Infinity of the Dead". I remember reading something about how both the movie and the album chronicle the end of the world. I decided to experiment with my own "end of days" movie.

Evidence: * "The car is on fire, there's no driver at the wheel, the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides and a dark wind blows."

THE END HAS COME. This synch is really moody, lyrical and multi-dimensional. Watch where Morgan (Vincent Price) burrys his wife and then look at the "Infinity" album cover art. Listen to the man on "Blaise Bailey Finnegan III" talk about the weapons he owns, while we see Morgan break into an armory. It's all there, go watch.

*bang!* I'm dead.

Try it for yourself...

i agree

This film sort of drags, so the drone quality of the music does blend nicely. This seems like a really hard film to synch, as the narrative is mostly in Morgan's head. I really did enjoy watching this synch. Probably more so than just watching the film by itself. It is rather subjective, without those standout moments that just smack you upside the head, it's more of an artistic venture. I wouldn't know how to grade this one, but it is worth a look-see.

don't shoot-i am a man

Good

I tried just GSYBE's "F#A# infinity" with "The Last Man on Earth". This synch was very good in mood match. I think the "Evidence" presented above is the only strong lyrical synch. The other lyric stuff seemed kind of random. Both the music and the movie were eirily slow and creepy. Both the music and movie sort of blended since neither had strong transitions. (Morgan seems kind of calm about extraordinary events, and the music drones on) Overall, I was quite pleased. I give the first portion a B+.

I have never heard of New Zero Kanada so i can not rate the second portion. How did you learn of them?

I liked Rachel's "Nine Inch Ring" much better.

I also tried "F#A# Infinity" with "The Omega Man" and the results were abysmally bad.

Oh, wow!

Thanks, Karl! I just noticed you posted this. I didn't think anyone would ever check this out. I first heard about GY!BE a few years ago. "Dude, check out this scary Canadian band. Their albums sound like the end of the world." I honestly don't remember how I came up with this synch, but it definately is one of my favorites. Ha, "The Omega Man"!?

*bang* I'm dead.
