Children of Men - Pink Floyd?
Hi,
Just joined and first post, I hope to post more. This is an interesting story I saw last week. Synch material? Hmmmmm.
REVIEW: CHILDREN OF MEN: SLY MUSICAL REFERENCES TO PINK FLOYD, KING CRIMSON
Brad Kava, 09:37 AM in Brad Kava, Movies & DVDs, Music
IT was no comedy, by any means, but "Children of Men'' director Alfonso Cuaron was having some fun with classic progressive rock music, a genre that always had ties to sci-fi.
He used one of the prog rock tunes that usually separates the lovers from the haters, "The Court of the Crimson King," a 1969 opus that usually has non-fans gnashing their teeth. But boy, it sounded great in the soundtrack here.
And then, a moment that will live on in prog rock history: When Clive Owen's character visits his cousin, who is charged with preserving the great art of the century, the view out his window is the cover of Pink Floyd's 1977 disc, "Animals," with its factory, smokestacks and flying pig.
Did anyone else but Floyd fanatics get this joke? I loved it and would love to hear Cuaron's explanation.
Here's the soundtrack disc, with a great collection of songs...
1. Hush- Deep Purple
2. Witness (1 Hope)- Roots Manuva
3. Tomorrow Never Knows- Junior Parker
4. Sleepy Shores- Michael Price
5. The Court Of The Crimson (King Edit)- King Crimson
6. Backward- Kode9 And The Spaceape
7. Wait- The Kills
8. There Is An Ocean- Donovan
9. Ruby Tuesday- Franco Battiato
10. Money Honey- Pressure Feat. Warrior Queen
11. Arbeit Macht Frei- The Libertines
12. Indian Stomp- Cyrus (Random Trio)
13. Bring On The Lucie (Freda Peeple)- John Lennon
14. Running The World- Jarvis Cocker
