Permissions changes

Site Issues/Feedback

FYI, I made some pretty extensive changes to the site permissions, in order to "fix" the whole unpublishing issue with spam filtering. I've actually turned off the spam filter, and instead granted rights to post without my approval to a subset of "trusted" users (i.e., if you've been an active participant for a while, you should be "trusted"). This, in theory, separates out those who have created accounts just to poke around from those who have been active in the community. If you think you aren't marked "trusted" and should be, please send me a private message via the site, or email me at arkiver@xnet.com.

For the non-trusted postings, I'll be doing an approval sweep periodically throughout the day (or as soon as I can get to it), but this should prevent valid posts from the active participants from being filtered as spam.

Just so we're all clear, just in case one of the trusted folks starts posting in ways that would qualify as spamming or trolling, I'll be doing one warning, followed by a loss of trusted status. That doesn't mean you will not be able to post, just that it will require approval, if you were to get yourself in that situation. I hope that will avoid any unpleasant issues, like we've had before...

Trying again...

Continuing my ongoing battle with this...

So, I decided to give allowing anonymous postings a try yet again. I have some ideas on a newer version of the Arkive that I'm trying to test, and thought I'd first "trial" the idea of allowing a little more "ease of use" in the comments here to start with... just to see. So far the anonymous comments have been back on for over a day and the spammers have yet to discover them. So... we shall see...

Just a quick update...

feedback also...

For a while, the site's feedback form hasn't been working properly. That is also now fixed, and will also work as a way to contact me, if you think you should be a trusted user but aren't.

If you've posted frequently or lately, you should be one already... but I didn't quite make it through the whole list of user accounts (although I did winnow down the accounts that haven't been used in 30 days that never posted anything). I am also being more aggressive at eliminating any account that appears to be spam-related. My criteria for that are generally long usernames that aren't words (LSAOWQEQHWQOSX_we for example), or accounts associated with generic email accounts (like registrar@porn.com). If you feel your account has been incorrectly deleted, please let me know via the methods described above...
