great poll...

Although by definition I doubt many people would define themselves as criminal, except in a "tongue in cheek" fashion. I gotta remember to do some more copyright stuff, maybe another short podcast just on that...

Don't ask, don't tell

I suspect your comment "...I doubt many people would define themselves as criminal" puts you in the "unsure, and a little afraid" category. Tee-Hee

definitions...

I'm sure by Hollywood's definition, I do fall into the criminal category, so I guess I'm not really in the unsure category. But that's the point (to me) of all of the debate about copyright... it's not clear that their definition is right. There was a researcher (I forget his name at the moment) that got covered on BoingBoing and a couple other sites I read, who figured that the average person is guilty of several million dollars in copyright violations per day, by just doing what people ordinarily do.

So, I guess in that sense, I was more going for, this is a bit of a loaded question, since it does assume that the way the entertainment industry, or even the current legal status of things, defines things is right. I think a pretty strong case could be made that when everyone fits the definition of criminal, that it's the definition itself that is out of whack, rather than people themselves who are criminals.

I'm guessing you probably meant this more as tongue in cheek, so sorry to get all serious about it....
