Introductions?

Community (Open)

So this section is sorta riffing on an idea by the mighty JayDingo. The intent is to start a place for more community focused type discussion. Jay's specific idea was an introduction thread... so with that in mind...

Hi everyone, this is your host, Arkiver, webmaster of the Synchronicity Arkive. Welcome one and all to the Sync Arkive. The site has been online since 1995, in various forms. It's been one of the oldest sites on the net to find out about Dark Side of the Rainbow (the Wizard of Oz/Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon match-up), as well as the first site to really pitch the idea of additional synchronicities.

If you spend any time here at all, I'm sure you'll pretty quickly pick up on some of my obsessions, namely music, media, fan culture, and copyright, along with all things net-centric. Nowadays I tend not to be that active in actually constructing synchs themselves, but I do still very much enjoy participating in the community.

You can probably find out way more than you ever wanted to know about my own involvement in synching via the 2nd episode of our Arkiving Synchronicity podcast, where longtime Arkive contributor Karl Tune interviews me, as payback for my interview of him (episode 1), along with the special that Karl, Baker (episode 3) and I did (the special is a bonus, that was done after episode 3). The podcasts are a bit on the silly side, but they're a blast to do, and I hope to continue adding more, as time allows.

I have a lot of hopes to make improvements and changes to the Arkive coming up... but I've been saying that for a while, and unfortunately the rest of life has a way of getting in the way... if you have any questions/concerns about the Arkive, you can reach me via email at arkiver@xnet.com, but I do get a lot of spam so be sure to use a distinctive (and synchronicity related) subject line.

that's my intro... next?

peace,

If you look around the arkive I bet you could a couple of good movies that you could pick up for not too much money that could give you lots of synch options. You should probably pick up the matrix and dark city (around $10 each) if for nothing else than the sheer coolness of the movies themselves. If you pick up one movie for some good pink floyd synching it should be 2001: a space odyssey. There are two incredible synchs for the end; one with the song Echoes from Meddle and one with the title track of Atom Heart Mother.

P.s. I have actually been thinking of trying something with the thin red line, becasue it so visually arresting, but im not sure what.

Synchronicity is interesting

Hi, I'm Ave (pronounced like "Abe," but with a v). I am a huge Pink Floyd fan, so I would consider it blasphemy to have not tried "Dark Side of the Rainbow." I have also done The Wall and Alice in Wonderland. Others would be tried, but the movies I own are limited, or at least in the ones that would logically be synched (and our VCR stopped working, making us rely on a DVD player, for which we do not have the older movies). I have one idea of a synchronicity, but my account doesn't want me to post new topics. Maybe I glossed over some important qualification.

The most annoying thing is that, of the movies I can use to try a synch at this time, none of them are on the site. As I am apt to make lists, I thought I would give a list of my movies, in case others might have ideas for albums that would go with them (the list is long and possibly pointless. I'm sorry for this, but it is something I do. Skip it if you wish):

Beast of Yucca Flats
BloodLust!
Bluebeard
Bowling for Columbine
The Brain That Wouldn't Die

I actually am tempted to list my CDs, too, but I will leave them out as I have over 400 albums. Usually if somebody posts an album for a synch I can find it (especially if it's Pink Floyd or related to them).

Ideas

Here's a short Muse synch for LOTR2

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Revelations

Youve listed some documentries and concert videos, as well as comedy and i dont think those type of films lend themselves to synching.
Try to go for action/adventure/horror films with lots of interesting visuals and editing; e.g on your list stuff like House of Haunted Hill, The Incredibles, Snatch, Total Recall, Pirates...

Addendum

I own two versions of Heroes Season 1, and neither of their disc 1s play. Otherwise, I would have tried the OK Computer/Heroes Episode 1 synch.

Perhaps you could try devil rekall? The Deville's synch of Total Recall and White Zombie's 'La Sexorcisto' sounds really cool, but my copy of Total Recall was stolen. At any rate, welcome to the forum!

Looney Runes on YouTube...

I should try that

Sounds interesting, but I might not ever do that one. It really comes down to the fact that I may never own any White Zombie. It's just not my thing. I know I said I could get albums pretty well, but I will generally look for music that I have, as well. I still am tempted to list my CDs, but I know if I do it will be an insanely long list and just annoy everyone, especially if it is in these comments. I actually would start a thread, but I wouldn't know which board to do it in.

I did post my own synch, though, so at least there is something. Maybe I can find a better one and post it up. I do have quite a few CDs.

Hell-o

Greetings all. It is I, Looney Runes...lover horror films, moonlight, martinis and things most bizarre. I first heard of DsotR in the late 90s (I was doing a lot of chemicals back then, so I can be more specific) at a laser Pink Floyd show in Houston. The next synch I heard about was from a co-worker. This one combined the Smashing Pumpkins “mellon Collie” CD and “Fantasia”. Again, I was blown away. I watched those two synchs many times over the following years, and insisted on showing them to anyone who would watch.

Not until early last year did I discover the Synchronicity Arkive and begin trying more recipes. Leighton's “yoshimi battles the terminator two” really brought it home to me that there were synchs out there that were not only fantastic, but actually consisted of films / music that really appealed to me. I have since devoted countless hours exploring synch possibilities, utilizing my own CD / DVD collection. Although the failure rate of synch attempts is probably 99%, I would not call any of them wastes of time. Attempting synchs almost always reveals aspects of the films and music involved that I never noticed.

Some artists would say that it is the process of creating that is important, and not the final product. This seems escpecially true in synching. Many of my own synch discoveries have happened in a frenzied state of excessive drug use and very much altered states of perception, though I have recently sought out other healthier methods of drawing out the creative side of my brain.

I have also recently begun experimenting with video production software and striving to break away from the restrictive nature of straight play-through synchs, with varying success.

I am also very grateful to Arkiver for providing this oulet for creativity and discussion. You do an amazing job maintaining this space for us all. If I can ever be of help in some way, please let me know.

Is everybody in....?

Hello true believers! Jaydingo here, creater of such synchs as 'Innuenterview', 'Mr. & Mr's. Mo' & the featured synch 'Jaws Like Swimming' to name a few. I joined the ranks of The Synch Ark sometime in 2006 & have been taking the red pill ever since. Like many I was introduced to the synch phenom through the mother of them all...The Dark Side of the Rainbow even attending what may be at least one account of its earliest public showings in 1995.

Putting that experience on the backburner, for years I continued to collect unreleased music on cassette tape, vhs, & finally cd & dvd through various trade groups until I started to notice several "synch films" popping up in the trade community. My search for who created these synchs eventually led me to The Synch Ark renewing my interest in synchronicity films.

As far as goals for myself in the realm of synchronicity, I hope to continue to enjoy the synch creations of others, creating my own synchs (single cue as well as more elaborate "tiled" synchs) while contributing to the community & keeping things fresh.

A big thanks goes out to The Arkiver for maintaining The Synch Ark as well as a "big ups" to Dave Bytor, Looney Runes, Stegokitty, Karl Toon, YouLookLikeRain, & Rich Aucoin for "sharing the crayons." Eye-wink

Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy

Hi Everybody,

Welcome to the big party here at the Synchronicity Arkive. I joined the merry band here at the very start of 2002. I think Baker B considers me to be part of the end of the second wave of synchers to arrive. I am strangley drawn to matching music to movies. How many times have you listened to a song on the radio and had some imagry play out in your head because of the music. I think it is interesting to try and get something to harmonize. I have seen quite a number of good synchs here and am glad to see a rating system initaited here on the synch data base. I am one of the regulars here and am probably the only paying member of the Arkive besides Arkiver himself.

I was just wondering how many synchs I have seen. Say I have been doing it for 7 years solid, once every weekend. Then I have probably watched over 300 synchs so far. UNbelieveable! The current database has not quite so many. Watching a good synch for the first time is like opening up a present. Thank you all for coming up with so many good ideas (and I kick you in the ass for the bad ideas. But thats a different story).

The Synchronicity Arkive has come a long way. I cannot thank Arkiver enough. He is the center of music movie synchronity on this planet. He should be depicted as Atlas with the weight of the world on his shoulders.

I wish you all some Happy Hunting,
Karl Tune
