Share Your Synchs

Film: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Song: Watching The Wheels - John Lennon (1980)

This is my first contribution to the forum, hope you enjoy it.

Full disclosure ... I'm writing a book about Film and Music Syncs ... but more about that at some later point.

Clearly, I have no credibility here so I thought I'd just post some stuff and see what you guys think.

Enjoy!

Synchrodestiny!...Thats the ticket!

Thats a great term Karl. As much of a "anti" intent guy I am this phenomenon has happened to me before to a point where I've literally had to pull over to the side of the road to take notes on a sync idea. One other time I was at a record store & noticed a cd out of the corner of my eye. I didnt buy it & halfway home, "something" made me turn back to buy that particular cd. This has happened at other times & these two examples led to very credible sync discoveries. Earlier I just chalked it up to hunches, after it happened more frequently, I coined the phrase "esp-lite" Eye-wink but that word sums it up definitely!

Just to clarify:

Just to clarify:

Is your viewpoint that some syncs are quite credible but most aren't? If so, what do you mean by credible?

Or is it more your viewpoint that coincidences happen, thus unintended connections will always be made?

Just trying to understand your viewpoint.

Credibile syncs

Don't read too much into that. That was simply to say that when that type of thing has occured to me some "rather good" sync projects have come about. Connections or sync occurences definitely depend on the viewer. Individual interpretation isn't always so cut & dry.

Very true.

Very true.

Music that one person finds wonderful is another person's nightmare. Your favorite film could be another person's worst ever. So then to complicate it by syncing film with music will definitely produce a variety of reactions, complicated even further if the viewer is unfamiliar with either the song and the film (or both).

Pirates of the Caribbean

Filmsynchs's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest to John Lennon's Watching The Wheels" is amazing. It is even more amazing that the song is not recent and fits SO well. It is A+ material.

connections?

How did you make the connection with this old song and recent movie? Did you just happen to be listneing to the song on the radio when the movie was on? Sort of like when somebody rented I am legend and found a Bob Marley tape (which they never owned) in their trash can. Strange but true fact about synchrodestiny.

Great question.

Great question.

The simple answer is that I was already aware of other syncs to the song. So that awareness made it easy to spot.

Starting out was far from easy. Like finding your way in the dark room you're totally unfamiliar with. Then I gained some additional ideas and these ideas just started to snowball.

Candidly, patterns are the syncers best friend. If you notice several films featuring a solo woman in a red dress ... you can take it as coincidence or you can start exploring why.

DeConno Report

Marco wrote "The Deconno Report" about movie music matches. It was well written and documented with more than 200 pages. It would be well worth it to check it out. Marco came up with "Apocolypse Now/the Wall" and a number of other good ideas. Marco took down his site advertising the book so I dont know what else to do besides tell you to hunt him down.

Thanks for that. I'll try

Thanks for that. I'll try to track The DeConno Report down.

The Book

I've always been here...

Anyhow, I have not done anything with the book in over 2 years (personal issues). Perhaps one day, when the inspiration hits again, I'll finally whittle the book down to an easy 1,000 pages and post it for all free of charge.

The old book (pdf) is located on my home computer with no access to the internet.

A pdf excerpt from the new book (15 pages) of one color screenshot-by-screenshot synch is available to anyone that wants it emailed to them. I may have given this to Karl a few years back but I'm not sure as the intended movie wasn't available on DVD until about 2 years ago.

All anyone has to do is email me at my home email address and ask for it. marco"at"deconno.com (simply change the "at" to the appropriate symbol (I don't need any email programs harvesting my address).

I can get it out to you Mon-Fri 8-5 EST.

Take Care,
Marco

credible?

Congrats on first "contribution", a link like that is definitely a good way to share. I wouldn't worry too much about credibility... to a certain extent anyway, it takes a while to build that in the synching community, probably because over the years there have been a lot of trolling and flaming "drive-bys"... so I'd just advise, be patient and keep posting.

I did get your YourTube "shared" link... I just haven't had a chance to check them out in depth yet. I'm woefully behind at the moment, so apologies on that, it really isn't personal... just the way things are at the moment....

peace,
