Faq project
Submitted by looney runes on Tue, 2008-01-29 21:44. Group Shared ProjectsI added a few bits from around the net pertaining to posting ettiquette and such and added Karl's abbreviation list. It still needs some proofreading, editing and some blanks filled in, but it's coming together.
Frequently asked questions and forum guidelines
*I'm having trouble logging in...
If you are having trouble logging in, here are a few of things to try:
*I'm having trouble with my Profile...
You can take care of many things concerning your profile by visiting the MY ACCOUNT section.
You can change your password, personal information and such on the MY ACCOUNT page.
You can view or edit your profile on the USER ACCOUNT page.
You can have your password sent to you in an email by clicking the FORGOT PASSWORD link of the LOGIN page.
*How do I add a picture to my profile?
Select MY ACCOUNT from the menu at the top of the site.
Find the profile to which you want to add a picture, and click Upload Picture.
To upload a picture, click the Browse button and navigate to your picture file, check the "I agree..." checkbox, and click the Upload Picture button.
*How do I change what it says for my profile?
Select MY ACCOUNT from the menu at the top of the site.
Find the profile where you want to change what it says, and click Edit Information.
Make your changes to the profile information.
Click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page
*How come I can't see my post?
*I don't like the review someone gave me...
While some people may like your synch and say very nice things, some people may dislike your synch, may not be nice, and may make shallow or irrelevant comments.
This is a public site, and there are all types of people that use it. This is all part of being at a public site, and you need to choose for yourself whether you want to participate in this type of thing. Everyone has gotten an unfair review once or twice, so please just take it in stride. You can trust that most people know an unfair review when they see one, and they don't pay attention to them.
*Someone is behaving inappropriately...
Sometimes someone is up to no good, doing things like trolling, sending threatening private messages, impersonating another artist, starting review wars, or generally being a jerk. You can use the SITE ISSUES/FEEDBACK section of the PUBLIC FORUMS to report what you are seeing.
*What's with all the freakin' ads?
The site's sponsors help to pay for the costs of maintaining the Arkive. Advertisers pay to have ads on this site, and whenever one of those ads is clicked a portion of what they pay goes into the Arkive's account, which helps us pay the bills.
*How can I support the Synchronicity Arkive?
Buy something from the Arkive store! Here you can buy apparel, coffee mugs, hats, stickers and more. All proceeds go to maintaining and improving this site.
*What do those points mean?
The point system was created as an incentive for users to participate in the site, and be more active. Users accumulate points for performing certain action, like posting comments, inviting users, purchasing from the store, voting in polls, etc.
*What's up with the podcasts?
Arkiving Synchronicity is the Arkive's own podcast, where you will find interviews with various members of the synching community. These podcasts are very useful tools for learning more about the origins/history of synching, various theories, techniques and personal stories of the participants. They are available for free download or you can purchase a CD copy.
*What the heck is a buddy list?
The Buddy list enables users to add buddies within the Arkive to their user account. Users can maintain a list of their buddies and keep track of what their buddies are posting to the site. They can also track their buddy's buddies and thereby explore deeper into the Arkive.
*What is a featured synch and how can I get my own synch featured?
Featured Synchs...
Interacting with style, grace and charm
*Use the correct section for your posts in the Public Forums section.
If you want to plug your new synch, use the RECIPE link. Use the FORUM TOPIC link to create a threaded discussion. Use the POLL link to create a multiple choice question members can vote on. There is also a STORY link...stories may be used as a personal blog or for news articles. All of these links are found in the CREATE CONTENT section of the sidebar.
*Make your questions (and responses) as clear and intelligible as possible.
If English is your native language then please use punctuation and well structured sentences to whatever extent possible. It is easier to read and understand your post if it's.... well, if it's easier to read. If English is not your native language, then just do the best you can. We'll figure it out.
*Please give your post a relevant topic subject.
*Don't create phony profiles to review yourself.
*Try to post questions in the appropriate forum. The Arkiver will move them if needed, but it's easier for all concerned if they are where they belong in the first place.
*Do not contact Arkiver by Private Messenger or Email to ask a technical question. All such questions should be posted in the Site issues/feedback forum.
*All caps or large or small fonts or all bold or italic is not only hard to read, it's generally considered poor forum etiquette. For example, all caps is considered the equivalent of YELLING.
*Of course, spam will not be tolerated.
*Use common sense when posting.
*Help a newbie – you were a newbie once yourself.
*Remember, there are kids that read the forums, so try to keep it clean.
*Posting a link to an article is better than posting the whole article.
*How do I get more people to watch/review my synch?
This is a community site, so the best way to get people to try your synch and leave reviews is to become active in the community. Here are a couple of suggestions...
*The more synchs that you watch to and review, the more visible you will be on the site.
If the reviews that you leave are friendly and considerate, the people that receive your reviews will often return the favor and leave you a review. If the reviews you leave are helpful and/or contain interesting ideas, people will be curious about you and will go check out your synchs.
*The discussion forums section is a good place to meet other artists.
This is where you can plug your synch ideas and for general conversation. If you make yourself known in the community in a respectful way, people will be curious about you and will check out your synchs. You can avoid making a bad first impression by posting messages in the correct section and by not announcing how great you are right off the bat.
*There's a real person behind the synch you watch and the text you see.
Be considerate, and remember that what may seem like a joke or a witty comment when you're writing it can seem rude when someone else is reading it.
*Watch synchs and write considerate, meaningful reviews.
Don't write one review and then copy and paste it over and over into other reviews. It's not nice for the person receiving the review, and you'll make a bad reputation for yourself.

synchronicity at Last Fm
Submitted by looney runes on Mon, 2007-09-17 17:16. Group Shared ProjectsFor anyone interested, I have started a group at last Fm for the purpose of sharing musical tastes among the synchronicity Arkive. I named the group synchronicity radio. Last Fm gives you the option to play music on their software, plug-ins that allow you to play music on other players and also an online player. If you are a musician, you can even upload your own music for sharing.
To sign up for Last Fm or to learn more, go here:
http://www.last.fm/
The group can be found by clicking the 'users" tab. Next click the 'groups' tab. Then search 'synchronicity radio'.
At present, there is no profile picture for the group, forums or restrictions on who can join. So, let's see where this goes...

Fellow Synchers Unite! (Please)
Submitted by mrdanger on Thu, 2006-02-16 13:52. Group Shared ProjectsHi one and all.
I am a new member but have been a bit obsessive over this type of activity since I saw The Dark Side Of Oz for the first time. Obviously that Sync rocks serious balls and i could go on about what it all means for a long time. I'll spare you that for now but in the mean time i have a request of you guys...
Here are a few movies I love and/or think would make great synching fodder but im not sure what tunes might spirit that special little something we all know and love into them:
Shawshank Redemption
Monty Python: Life of Brian
Citizen Kane (maybe White Stripes actually as they obliquely reference the movie in White Blood Cells)
Highlander! (Beyond Queen maybe)
Stupid ones, Happy Gilmore and shit like that.
The Good the Bad and the Ugly (beyond animals though im yet to try it)
Memento
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest
There are more but if anyone can think of a movie with spectacular visuals then that'd be sweet.
So any suggestions?, basically! I clearly have too much time on my hands, but what the hell. Another thought, Red Hot Chili Peppers' One Hot Minute album is an ace collection of roughly Buddhist songs so any movies come to mind that fit that mould? Crouching Tiger probably, I'll get on it I guess...
Thanks if you can be bothered to get back to me/us on this one. Peace Out brothers and sisters! and other hippy bullshit. Shit! Star Wars! Thats gotta be worth a synching. OK enough. Thanks and till next time!

shared projects?
Submitted by stoneColdFloyd on Fri, 2006-02-10 20:41. Group Shared ProjectsSo it seems like there was at least one shared project, maybe 2. Is anyone still out there interested in this idea? Seems like the net would be good for this type of collaboration and it's not like there is a shortage of films that would fit this. I think Amazon Women on the Moon woul dmake a good source fo ra projet like this. Or maybe the Animatrix. Or Heavy Metal. Anyone else have any ideas?

Purpose of Shared Projects...
Submitted by arkiver on Sun, 2006-02-05 10:55. Group Shared ProjectsThis sub-forum is actually for discussing shared projects, not sharing projects you've created. I guess that needs clarifying... I've moved a couple topics here back to the synchronicity discussion forum.
An example of a shared project is Shared Fantasia (which can found at http://breton.home.boone.net/sharedfantasia00.htm), where multiple people break a film apart and synch up things together. I guess that was the original purpose of this subforum. I'll have to create another one for sharing ideas you've worked on individually.
