When album ends start The Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack album.

This is the opposite of the modern version of 'The Time Machine' which synchronises with the same albums but the other way around. They contain the songs 'Time' and 'Time warp'.

This was superb. I watched it on TV though, and it had advertising breaks, and I couldn't pause it between albums, so had to estimate. But I think I got it right because it synchronised so wonderfully. The second album ends a few minutes before the film does, so I'm not sure what goes at the end, but I watched it with the original soundtrack. Here are some examples of how it synchronised...

The very start of the film was excellent with the start of Dark Side Of The Moon.

"Look around" when the boy hears noise when he is in bed and looks around.

"High you'll fly" when the horse jumps.

The woman announcers voice in 'On the run' synchronises with the boy's mother talking.

The time bandits first appear when the song 'Time' begins.

"And you run and you run" when some horses run.

"half a page of scribbled lines" when a guy picks up some pages then we see the map.

"It's good to warm my bones beside the fire" when a guy who is on fire runs past and jumps into a lake.

"I'm not frightened of dying, any time will do, etc." when some guys are stood before a firing line and are killed.

The screaming synchronises with the violent Punch And Judy show.

"I never said I was frightened of dying" when a guy is about to shoot himself.

The song 'Money' synchronises with the first robbery where they steal all of Napoleon's treasure.

"It's a hit!" when he congratulates the dwarves on their show.

"Don't take a slice of my pie" when the camera rotates to show they have even taken all the food off the table.

"In the end it's only round and round and round" when the boy gets out his camera, which is round on the end, and photographs the map which is covered in circles.

"The lines on the map moved from side to side" when the dwarf rolls up the map.

"Down and out" when they are all hanging by their feet and are let down, then pulling their legs out of the loops.

The lunatic and lunatics are sung about when we first see Evil and his minions. He gets into one of the dwarves' heads ("The lunatic is in my head"), to persuade them to bring the map to him ("Every day the paperboy brings more").

"Doctor X will build a creature. See androids fighting" when the boy watches Agamemnon fighting the man with the creature head. He also has a metal head like a robot.

"There's a light burning in the fireplace" when fire burns.

"Let's do the time warp again!" when the dwarves come to 'rescue' the boy, trying to force him to come through the time warp with them.

"So you can't see me... well secluded... in another dimension" when they hide behind the sheet and disappear through the time warp. The same line repeats at the end of the album during the single version of the song when they hide from the creatures chasing them.

"How do you do, I see you've met my faithful handyman" when the dwarves crash onto the two lovers on the Titanic. Also when it says, "Satanic" it sounds like 'Titanic'.

"Don't get strung out by the way I look" when the guy's lover who could handle his deformed nose storms off after she finds out he also wears a wig.

"My head used to swim" when they are swimming in the sea.

"I really love that rock and roll" repeats during the boat scene, which rocks and rolls on the sea.

"I can make you a man" when the ogre and his wife try to cook the men.

"Shooting up junk... taking everyone for a ride" when the giant takes everyone for a ride on the boat on his head, and they inject him with sleeping potion.

"It's beyond me" when they get to the invisible barrier with their destination just beyond.

"What's this, let's see" as the dwarf examines the map.

The fanfare sounds when the barrier breaks, revealing their destination just beyond.

"I'm going home" when they escape the cage and plan to leave the place.

"We've got to get out of this trap!" when the boy shouts, "It's a trap!"

I highly recommend this one.

Radiohead - In Rainbows syncs with Gattaca

08.08.08 - Radiohead put on an excellent performance on 03.08.08 in Noblesville, Indiana. The sound quality was superior. The stage set-up and the lighting were unique and interesting. They reminded me of the Matrix movies. I'm sure that was the intended effect. I really enjoyed the show. The variety of songs was the perfect balance between the new songs and the songs from the past. Radiohead shined.

Here are some ideas that have popped in my head lately.

Music: The Doves "Some Cities" with the Movie "Metropolis"
When I look at the art from this CD it reminds me of that movie. The first song is called "Black and White town" and Metropolis is in Black and White.

Music: Tool "10000 days" with the movie: 10,000 B.C.
The artwork of the CD depicts ancient civilization looking faces.

Music: Three Days Grace "One-X" with the movie "The One"
The CD art depicts paper cutout men that have checks on them and one with an X. In the movie, the main character travels to his alter egos in the other dimensions to kill them and has one left (to get their power) hence, X marks the spot.

If anyone finds the time to try these out, let me know if they work. Cheers.

IDEA "Misfits: Plan 9" with "Ed Wood's : Plan 9 from Outer Space"

It seems to me that all of us here at the Arkive have similar tastes in music. Mainly rock. I used to listen to Metallica and by association started listening to Glenn Danzig and the Misfits. I had one of those "ah ha" moments when I recalled the name of the CD. Plan 9. So...why not try it out with Plan 9 from outer space. Both are obscure works but, oddly, they seem made for each other.

I have not done this yet, as I'm waiting for the Movie to arrive. But I have already noted several similarities between the two works. Here's a starting list.

The title obviously; both have "Plan 9" in them.

The plot of the film is focused on a race of extraterrestrial beings who are seeking to stop humans from creating a doomsday weapon that would destroy the universe. In the course of doing so, the aliens implement "Plan 9", a scheme to resurrect Earth's dead as zombies to get the planet's attention, causing chaos.

Here are just some of the song titles that are pertinent to this story.

Teenagers from Mars
Night of the Living Dead
I Turned into a Martian
Astro Zombies

Also, there is a song titled "Vampira" and the actor "Vampira" appears in the film.

More to come later, after I've received the movie.

Well, I was doing some research on Plan 9 from Outer Space and apparently, Danzig named Plan 9 records in reference to the movie, Link
so that would explain the similarities in the song titles (Vampira). I think this will be an interesting piece of fusion.

Bob Dylan Greatest Hits Volume McPhee

And less constant, but still very good...

Omit track 4. When album ends start again from track 4 and omit track 7.

The Greatest Hits album was fantastic. The alternative and superior track order is plainly shown in the film. At the exact moment there is a change in track order swapping two tracks around Nanny McPhee bangs her cane on the floor and reality changes, but then goes back to normal afterwards. The point when track 10 'Gotta serve somebody' is missed out completely is when the servant is taken away to become a lady - so NO 'Gotta serve somebody' any more.

The animation at the end of the film is brilliant with the song 'Hurricane', then as the screen goes completely black and the final credits come up the lyrics say "If you're black..." so it synchronises completely from start to finish. Like most synchronicities the more familiar you are with the story the more coincidence you will see beyond what is happening at that moment on screen.

The synchronicity is quite precise throughout as well, eg. at the line
"Take the motherless children off the street and put them at the feet of a harlot"
the father of the motherless children, who are going to be thrown out onto the street if he does not marry finally decides to marry the harlot.

Or "The groom's still waiting at the altar"
The guy who was stood at the altar, whose bride ran away is still waiting there as a second bride joins him.

Not surprising with Blonde On Blonde the track which is missed out then played later is called 'One of us must know (sooner or later)'. Thus the 'sooner or later' in brackets means it can either synchronise now or later instead. The same thing happened when it synchronised with an episode of Lost. Note this indicated missing out track 4 produces a track order 1235, and the first track on the album is called 'Rainy day women nos. 12 & 35'.

Blood On The Tracks begins with the same song as the Greatest Hits album 'Tangled up in blue', though they seem to be a fraction of a second different, but it doesn't really make much difference in experiencing them.

I strongly suspect this film will synchronise brilliantly with more albums, or with those already listed with the tracks in an even better order. Though the Greatest Hits album is brilliant as it is. Even if you don't reverse the tracks when Nanny McPhee bangs her stick they still synchronise a little. The important thing is to miss out track 10.

Overall excellent, highly entertaining synchronicity.

Star Wars: A New Hope - ....And Justice for All

Hello all! This is my first topic and experiment with Syncing. I actually discovered this by accident. I was testing out some of Micheal Allen's syncs over at the Synching Ship. He had Empire Strikes Back to And Justice For All. So I thought, I have both of those, I'll test it out. This is where the accident happend. I played A New Hope instead and it actually synced up better than the Empire.

Only the first song truly synced though (As in hitting play and sitting back). The rest I had to manipulate and rearrange certain songs for what was going on in the movie (The best part is "Harvester of Sorrow" when the lyrics say "My life suffocates.." Darth is choking out a guy with the force! Here is my in depth write up of my experiment.

THE SET-UP: Start the movie (Special Edition) and Have The album songs rearranged in this order. I have provided checkpoints for the Movie Time for when each song should start. Here is a list of songs and the scenes they play over. I also have some Master of Puppets thrown in for good measure and with great effect.

Blackend ( Intro)
One (The droids are stranded)
And Justice For All (Luke and the Rebellion's plan intro)
Eye of the Beholder (Introduction of ObiWan.)

Start this group of songs at (35:25 time on the movie. Right when the scene changes to the Death Star)

Both works have running themes about oppressive governments.

I have provided checkpoints along the way so you can jump forward if you want to see a certain scene with a certain song.

The music transitions right with the scene as it gets heavy, they transition to the transport

"And Justice for All"

Lyric “Money talking” as Luke’s uncle pays the Jawa
The song is fitting for this scene as it talks about an oppressive government and this is the scene that Luke is introduced to Leia and the rebellion against the Empire.

“Eye of the Beholder” (6:30) takes up to 32:18

Again, this is a very lyrical piece. In the context of the Empire, it fits. For example "You can do it your own way, if it's done just how I say." or "Independence, liberty, Freedom of choice is made for you my friend"

Lyric "bittering distress" as we see R2 shaking in distress that he can't get the plans to Obiwan
Lyric "Do you see what I see" as Luke looks though the binoculars at the Sandpeople

Lyric “ He searches…” when Hans is searching for Luke in the water.

The Time Warp Machine

When track 14 ends start Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd

This was fascinating. Synchronicities with this album are always very funny, yet the film didn't seem to have much humour in it. They went well together though, with a little humour, but I'd rate as a 'B' grade synchronicity after watching once due to some slow portions. I picked it because of the song 'Time warp'.

One of my favourite lyrical synchronicities was when time was moving forward at great speed with the Earth getting technologically advanced, and as numerous satellites are seen orbitting the Earth the lyrics say, "Shooting up junk", then "Taking everyone for a ride" as a space shuttle takes people on a ride to the moon. Other examples...

"Here's the ring to prove that I'm no joker" as the guy rushes off to propose to his beloved, and his housekeeper holds out the ring he forgot.

"I was feeling done in, couldn't win" as the guy is depressed because he cannot prevent his beloved from dying, even though he can travel back in time.

"Come up to the lab, and see what's on the slab, I see you shiver with anticipation" as the guy in his lab finally unveils his time machine.

This needs more examination, a lot of the lyrics define things that happen in the second half of the film. Often this album ends and restarts at the end of track 14 and the two additional versions of the song 'Time warp' are missed out. But as it got to the end of track 14 the moon is seen all broken up, so I started 'Dark Side Of The Moon' at this point (film time 44:57 when the guy Guy is in the middle of sitting down) and it synchronised extremely well. As usual the song 'Money' barely synchronised at all, I've noticed this usually happens.

It also contains a song called 'Time', which coincidentally plays at the same time as 'Time warp' if you play the two albums at the same time. With the album 'Bob Dylan Greatest Hits' (UK version) the song 'The times they are a-changing' also plays at this time. I think there are other examples of time-related songs on other albums all playing at the same time as well, but those are the only three I remember at the moment. The first two albums also synchronise wonderfully with an episode of the TV show 'Lost', and the time-related songs play when a guy goes back in time. I'll try that Bob Dylan album anyway with the film, though it didn't seem to synchronise with the Lost episode.

Some examples with the film...

The guy finds his time machine when the song 'Time' starts, then the alarm bells start ringing when the creatures attack.

"And you run and you run to catch up with the sun" as the guy is running, being chased by a creature.

"Racing around to come up behind you again" as he climbs up and the creature also comes up behind him.

"Hanging on in quiet desperation" as he is desperately hanging on by one hand at the top.

With the song 'The great gig in the sky' the little speech about the inevitibility and acceptance of death is spoken whilst the village leader explains about how it is the way of the world that they are hunted and killed.

The song 'Us and them' begins as the 'Uber-Morlock' explains about how the human race has evolved into two different species. "Us and them, and after all we're only ordinary men."

"Black and blue" as the colours of the scene are almost entirely black and blue.

"Up..." as the Morlock lifts up a little creature out of the water, then "...and Down" as he drops it back down again.

"Down and out" as the time machine comes down and the Morlock tells the guy to leave.

Overall this is quite excellent. The album ends shortly before the film does, as the story reaches its conclusion. Not sure what happens for the last scene, but nothing is really necessary.

A Rush Of Doom To The Head

Album: A Rush Of Blood To The Head (Coldplay)

Start both at the same time. When the album ends start it again from the beginning, though there are probably other album possibilities. The film, including the end credits ends when the album ends for a second time, almost exactly at the same time.

This is surprisingly excellent. I wouldn't have thought the album and the film would really belong together, but the clues all seemed to point it out so I tried it and it worked brilliantly. Like with many synchronicities there are a few portions of mild coincidence, but overall it is very good throughout. The music synchronises wonderfully throughout and the lyrics synchronise most of the time. Some examples...

"Open up your eyes" repeats when a dead guy opens up his eyes.

"I miss you" when two guys are shooting at a creature but somehow manage to miss it.

"Honey you are a rock" The actor called The Rock plays one of the main characters in the film.

"Don't forget the rest of us" when a guy selfishly locks the door forgetting the woman running towards him - only her arm gets through the door. Later the soldiers say they want to find the rest of the arm.

"Where do we go? Nobody knows" when they vanish into the mysterious bubbles that take them to Mars.

The song 'The scientist' begins when they first meet the scientist.

"How long must you wait for it?" when the guy is in the pit for ages waiting for the creature to attack him.

"If you go, if you go and leave me down here on my own" he is down there in the pit alone with the creature because his partner left him alone.

"You came along and you cut me loose" when a creature unexpectedly comes along and cuts off a guy's head.

"I've got to get out of this hole" when a creature's tongue shoots out of its mouth.

"Green eyes" close-up of an eye that appears to be green.

I'd highly recommend this one, it's a good film as well so worth getting, interesting ideas. And the album is of course excellent.

Hail To The Feebles

Another film/album synchronicity....

Film: Meet The Feebles
Album: Hail To The Thief (Radiohead)

Album starts from track 6 'Where I end and you begin' (as usual). It repeats, and the film may also repeat as there is quite a bit on the album which doesn't immediately line up, for example the song 'Myxamatosis' doesn't line up with the scenes where the rabbit thinks he has myxamatosis.

Since scenes from music videos often appear in films and TV shows when that song plays, it was the song 'There there' that made me try this, as the music video is full of puppets, and so is the film.

Overall I'd say the original soundtrack is more entertaining though, but the synchronicity with the album is quite excellent in places. For example from 'I will'...

"I won't let this happen to my children,
meet the real world coming out of your shell.
With white elephants, sitting ducks,
I will rise up.
Little baby's eyes..."

This plays during the scene where the elephant meets his baby child (who presumably hatched out of a shell) which is half elephant and half white chicken. When the lyrics repeat "Little baby's eyes" the worm looks at the baby and says, "It's got your eyes, Sid!"

The song plays for a second time when the elephant and his baby appear again.
